| Peonies are one
of the least demanding of all perennials. Peonies require good drainage and cool
weather in the winter to satisfy their dormancy requirements. I FIND THAT A
HEAVY MULCH FOR THE FIRST YEAR OR SO HELP WINTER THEM I COOL AREAS |
PLANTING
PEONIES
| Peonies require a site that
will receive at least six hours of sunlight a day. Avoid planting near large trees
which will compete for moisture. Dig a hole about 15" deep and about
twice as wide. Mix topsoil and peat moss. Plant herbaceous peonies so that they are
covered by no more than two inches of this mix. Water well and add balanced fertilizer. |
|
| Tree peonies
should be planted deeper I find that if I plant then on a slant or
almost parallel to the ground they will produce more roots
AND BRANCHES the graft or bulge is
covered. |
